What Does “Mean Raw Score” Mean? (No pun intended)
A “mean raw score” is basically another way of saying “the average overall score” for any given examination, or an examinee’s “average overall score” in comparison to all of the other examinees. Using the above MBE’s Constitutional Law raw scores as an example, you will see that the “Perfect Raw Score” was 31 and the “Mean Raw Score” was 19.5. This means that there were 31 Constitutional Law questions asked and that the “average overall” correct response to all 31 questions was 19.5.
What Does “Range Raw Score” Mean?
The “range raw score” simply means “the lowest score to the highest score.” Again, using the above MBE’s Constitutional Law raw scores as an example, you will see that the “Range Raw Score” was 6-30. This means that the lowest number of correct answers was 6, and the highest number of correct answers was 30. (See, e.g., Wiki Answers)
What Does “Perfect Raw Score” Mean?
A “perfect raw score” means the total number of questions that were presented on the exam, or on a particular portion of the exam. If you received a “perfect raw score” this means that you answered every question correctly. Very seldom does an examinee receive a perfect raw score on the bar exam; however, as you will notice with the above MBE’s Constitutional Law scores, at least one student answered 30 out of 31 questions correctly, whereas another student answered 6 out of 31 questions correctly.
