Where are the MBE, Part B, Raw Scores?
Well, apparently the Florida Board of Bar Examiners decided to forego providing applicants with their 2014 MBE raw scores. Did we miss the board’s notification? Did the board even disclose their intent to exclude the MBE raw scores? We have no idea, but if the Florida Board of Bar Examiners didn’t disclose the information then the board should not complain when a slew of applicants call the board’s office asking about their exam scores. Nevertheless, if you sat for the February exam and would like to know your MBE scores, you can obtain them from the National Conference of Bar Examiners. Was there a drop in the February 2014 Essay Scores?
Yes, the February 2014 Florida Bar Exam’s average essay scores dropped in comparison to the February 2013 and July 2013 essay scores. The lowest average essay score for the February 2013 exam was 56.0 points. The lowest average essay score for the July 2013 exam was 43.9 points, and the lowest average essay score for the February 2014 exam was 39.5 points. This means that there was a 16.5 point drop in the lowest average essay score within a 12-month time frame.
Even with the highest average essay score, there was still a drop in the overall essay average. The highest average essay score for the February 2013 exam was 59.6 points. The highest average essay score for the July 2013 exam was 52.5 points, and the highest average essay score for the February 2014 exam was 48.6 points. This means that there was an 11.0 point drop in the highest average essay score within a 12-month period. We can only conclude that either the Florida Bar Exam essays are becoming easier, thus lending toward downward scaling, or the board is grading the essays more stringently with each exam.
